  3.                   The Talking Checkbook - Version 6.7!

  5.                                What's new.
  6.     
  7.          * Here's our first release of the Talking Checkbook compiled
  8.     in Clipper version 5.2!  The advantage is approximately 120
  9.     thousand less bytes of memory are needed to run the program and
  10.     folks who don't need speech access (no miracles cause we still
  11.     do) can run the program using the command line parameter of
  12.     "Checks Quiet" to get super fast direct screen writes.  The
  13.     disadvantages are that those of us who rely upon speech will have
  14.     to put up with an occasional silence, which reading the current
  15.     line with our screen readers can cure.
  16.     
  17.          The Clipper folks have assigned two developers to look at
  18.     the PCBIOS object code for speech users and I am hopeful that we
  19.     will get an updated release of the PCBIOS.obj file soon.  The
  20.     problem with the speech object file provided by Clipper (don't
  21.     get to upset since they are the only ones trying to accommodate
  22.     speech users) was that it was presenting the same menu 2 and 3
  23.     times over which got to be mighty annoying.  Hang in there and we
  24.     will get it right with Clipper since they are trying to help.  In
  25.     any event, we all owe Jamal Mazrui a great debt of gratitude for
  26.     his work on getting Clipper Ver 5.2 to talk without the supplied
  27.     libraries from the company!

  29.          * If you've been trying to make electronic transfer payments
  30.     and got hung up in the withdrawal module hand the problem of
  31.     having "Auto Machine Withdrawal" in your "Pay to" field:  you now
  32.     are free!  Yup, Don changed the code to allow you to use the
  33.     withdrawal as an electronic transfer recorder.  Thanks Don!

  35.          * Lastly, there were folks concerned about paper from the
  36.     printer ejecting unnecessarily when checks were not being
  37.     printed.  Say, Don blew that little annoyance away as well.
  38.     
  39.          * So how come I keep talking about Don and nothing on what
  40.     I've been doing?  Well, I have been working on the Answering
  41.     Service Assistant software that hopefully will help some folks
  42.     start their own answering service business with a speech friendly
  43.     program.  Stay tuned for more on that.
  44.     
  45.          * future enhancements to the Talking Checkbook look like
  46.     electronic interfacing with private companies that do check
  47.     writing and interfacing with banking systems.  We will need to
  48.     look at that closely since it would require a fair amount of work
  49.     to happen, but it is something well worth the effort.
